Spring in the Rainforest

Spring in the Rainforest

Alien, complex and eternally beautiful balance of all systems working together Seasons shift and spring is here Stream of light through the mountains and rainforest A golden glow Last week a moth gave birth to twin girls Their soft innocence allows us to look at the world with new eyes We've been learning to balance work, play, and caring for ourselves and others in the night that were open on our shoulders, we were grazing young goats while their mothers looked for food for whom

He feels it's amazing that a moth can trust him walking around to take care of herself it's a full time job even though we spend hours out making sure Paisley and BSA from playing this role have taught us how to change and balance our routine even if we feel too busy and off our lists The fun work is full and there will always be times to sit and take care of the little goats this cat isn't just for the goats though I think she would gain a lot too from slowing down sitting or standing back up or from the love the animals gave us back the moth was just a baby when she came To the farm she was shy and very protective of her little sister Maggie it took months for her to trust us enough to pick her up but now she is so friendly and trusting that she even trusts us to take care of her babies it has taught us to always give more than we take giving these animals endless love Him even if they sneak into your vegetable patch or run away from that love always

I'm always in awe of this reciprocity in nature whether it's the love of a goat or the way a bee pollinates a flower and in return nourishes the hive I think we can all learn something from the circular way in which nature interacts we always try to emulate and work with these systems On cultivating the land orchards and animals and we work circularly like nature in simple things like replenishing soil from duck poop or more complex ways like how each animal's role relates to the same purpose they live in harmony with this well the goats are lovely companions they also have a purpose in the circular system They love to munch on weeds that aren't native to this area and that means their favorite snack is weeds without realizing they bounce around the farm removing weeds and letting the native species return someday soon Moonbey and Paisley will join the herd and be a rolling grower for their spring private

Seems like a fresh start With new growth and thriving red cedar it feels like the world is waking up We are inspired by this challenging walk in the garden planting neck crops and flowers I love gardening because it seems like a way I can give back to the land and in return I am gifted with abundance and help with the planting The cover crop here and it grows very quickly the cover crop fertilizes the soil suppresses weeds conserves soil moisture encourages biodiversity we only plant organic seeds and seedlings because non-organic seeds are covered in pesticides and once the plant grows the pesticides show through the plant if If a bee or a flower pollinates this plant, the insecticides are toxic and the bee will return the pollen back to the hive to poison the entire hive, and this is one of the reasons why bees decline insecticides. Monocultures without biodiversity it's easier to grow a lot of one thing but there's a lot of irony in this without not

Bees can be pollinated and without biodiversity nature's integrated systems can collapse thanks you didn't know what you wanted to get in too this is where animals come in to help we are able to build soil rich in funky microbes and insects that has a lot of diversity biological, where ducks actually eat pests that conventional farming relies on pesticides and chemicals to deter and with the rich topsoil we've created together, we can grow plentiful food without the need for chemical fertilizers,
